Privacy Policy

The short version

If you subscribe, I collect your email address and use it for one thing: sending you Field Notes. I don’t sell it, rent it, or hand it around. This site runs no analytics, no ad trackers, and sets no cookies. You can leave any time with one click. That’s the whole deal — the rest is detail.

Who runs this site

This site (ai.elizabethannwest.com, the “AI Lab”) is operated by Elizabeth Ann West as an individual. If you have any question about your data, email writer@elizabethannwest.com and you’ll reach me directly.

What I collect

Your email address — only if you choose to subscribe to Field Notes, and only after you confirm it (the “double opt-in” click). If you never subscribe, I never collect anything about you.
Basic email engagement — my email provider (Brevo) may note whether a newsletter was opened or a link clicked, so I can tell whether what I’m sending is useful. That’s it.

I do not collect names, payment info, or any sensitive personal data through this site, and I don’t build profiles or track you across the web.

Why I collect it & the legal basis

The only reason is to send you the newsletter you asked for. Because you actively confirmed your subscription, the legal basis under the GDPR is your consent — which you can withdraw at any time (see “Your rights” below).

Who helps me run it (sub-processors)

A handful of trusted services make the site and newsletter work. Your data may pass through:

Brevo — sends and stores the newsletter list. Brevo’s privacy policy ↗
HostGator — hosts the website files. Standard server logs (like your IP address) may be recorded for security, as with any website.
Google Fonts — the site loads its typefaces from Google, which means your browser contacts Google to fetch them. Google’s privacy policy ↗

Cookies & tracking

This site does not set tracking or advertising cookies, and it runs no analytics software. There’s nothing watching you here. If that ever changes, this page will be updated first and a notice added.

How long I keep it

Your email stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. When you unsubscribe, you’re removed from active mailing; if you want your data fully erased, just ask and it’s gone.

Your rights

You’re always in control of your data. You can:

Unsubscribe instantly using the link at the bottom of any newsletter.
Ask what I have on you, request a copy, or ask me to correct it.
Ask me to delete it entirely.

For any of these, email writer@elizabethannwest.com and I’ll take care of it. (If you’re in the EU/UK and feel I haven’t, you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.)

Children

This site and newsletter are meant for adults and aren’t directed at children under 16. I don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I’ll update the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes to how your data is handled will be called out clearly.
